Who needs rehabilitation?
Older adults who are recovering from a medical condition, injury or a hospital stay often spend some time in rehabilitation. This can be short-term or long-term, and often includes a range of services and amenities as well as expert care from a team of professionals.
What therapy services are available in rehab centers?
Kingswood offers a range of senior rehab services. From physical therapy provided by dedicated and caring physical therapists and occupational therapy designed by occupational therapists to help seniors get back to the life they love, to speech therapy services that enhance communication and aqua therapy to provide exercise with ease, our team is ready and waiting to help guide older adults on their journey.
What is physical medicine and rehabilitation?
Similar to physical therapy, physical medicine and rehabilitation help to restore functions as a result of an illness or disorder, potentially maximizing independence and quality of life; but they also provide Electromyography (EMG) therapy and injections performed by physiatrists.
This differs from physical therapy in the way that physical therapy focuses mainly on exercise to enhance balance, movement, flexibility and stretching. These functions are taught by physical therapists.

Does Medicare pay for respite care?
For Medicare to pay for respite care, certain conditions must be met. According to Medicare.gov, those who are choosing hospice care may qualify for respite care.
The article states that you may pay 5% of the Medicare Approved Amount for inpatient respite care and may have to pay for room and board if you live in a facility for hospice care.
The article also states that depending on whether or not the hospice team determines that you need short-term inpatient or respite care services that they arrange, Medicare will cover your stay. A small copayment for the respite stay may need to be paid, however. For more details, click here to read the article.
