If you’re a senior or a loved one of a senior citizen, you may be pondering a big decision. Perhaps you had been thinking about moving to a senior living community because you want the maintenance-free lifestyle, or because you or your loved one needs a little extra assistance. Or, you or someone you love is now needing a lot more care and it’s unsafe to continue living independently. However, as we emerge from COVID-19 quarantine, these dreams may seem like they are too unpredictable to consider.
“As it turns out, moving to a senior living community may actually be the safest place for you or a loved one moving forward,” says Devin Allred, Executive Director at Kingswood Senior Living.
“Our community has always focused on providing safe, secure and quality lifestyle options for our residents and their families,” Devin says. “That hasn’t changed during the pandemic. As a matter of fact, we became only more focused on ensuring the safety of everyone who calls us home. We understand that it’s a great honor to have been chosen to be you or your loved one’s home for your senior years, and it’s our duty and our pleasure to provide the safest possible environment following the most up-to-date CDC guidelines.”
“While the slow reopening of states and businesses is encouraging and exciting, please know that every decision throughout this process will be taken thoughtfully at Kingswood. Our plan is to implement a three-phased approach when reopening our community based on state and regional criteria, advice from public health officials, and the health status of our community.”
1. Protecting Our Seniors
According to a March 26th report from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), older adults are especially at risk of developing and experiencing severe effects from COVID-19.
“The individuals who are the most vulnerable are the ones who require the most assistance from outside parties,” says Devin. “If your elderly parents are living at home and you’re helping them receive the care they need, you’ve probably discovered that it can be difficult to research and review health care providers, coordinate care, and/or care for them yourself in a safe manner. That’s why I would reiterate that a senior living community like Kingswood is an excellent choice for individuals needing quality assistance, peace of mind and security for the future.”
2. Providing Peace of Mind
As a Life Plan Community, Kingswood provides the spectrum of senior living options from Independent Living and Assisted Living to Memory Care and Skilled Nursing Care. “For older adults who are still very independent, there is a great comfort in knowing that any care they might need in the future can be provided in one centralized location,” Devin says. “Instead of having to move to a new community or be separated from your spouse, seniors can remain ‘at home’ with their loved one and among the staff and residents they know … in a place that is focused on providing the utmost safety and care.”
For seniors who have been considering making the move, Devin says that now is actually a great time to do so. “As our cities and states begin opening up, there is still concern over the coronavirus,” he says. “Moving to a community now provides you or your loved one safety and security to ride out the uncertainty amongst residents you’ll soon call friends and a caring, quality staff.”
3. The Best – And Safest – Option
At Kingswood, throughout the pandemic, we have put enhanced safety measures into place in order to make sure our residents, staff and families are protected to the utmost,” he says.
Some of these measures include:
- Restricting any non-essential visitors to the community
- Establishing a stricter hand washing and sanitizing routine
- Limiting activities and access to communal spaces
- Enhancing procedures for cleaning, being diligent in disinfecting common areas
- Regularly screening residents and staff for any symptoms in order to catch issues before they become dire
- Instructing staff to stay at home if they show any symptoms of illness
